Company History
Private Theaters was founded in March 1997 and was originally known as MediaTech. While working as a salesman for a well-known custom electronics retailer located in Florida, the company founder, Troy D. Janda, a former recording engineer, realized that his clients and consumers, in general, were not enjoying the most authentic entertainment experience when watching or listening to their movies and music.
With a good understanding of the standards used by the professional film and television industry coupled with a passion and desire to help each customer enjoy the full potential of their entertainment purchases, Mr. Janda began to seek a way to provide this missing element to all home theater enthusiasts.
As it so happened, just about two years earlier, an organization known as the Imaging Science Foundation(ISF) was founded to educate, train, and promote the importance of professional video standards to custom integrators and consumers alike. In March 1997, Mr. Janda attended a training and certification seminar given by the founders of the Imaging Science Foundation, Joe Kane and Joel Silver..
Shortly after becoming an ISF certified video calibration technician, Mr. Janda purchased his first color analyzer for an investment of $5000 and began providing professional video calibration services to home theater retailers, custom a/v dealers, and private clients in the Jacksonville, FL. metropolitan area.
In the coming years, the company continued to add performance and support services such as acoustical analysis/correction, sales consultation, design, and programming to its mix of solutions it offered while also expanding the service coverage area to Orlando, Tampa, Tallahassee, Pensacola, southern Georgia and Alabama.
In 2004, the company ended its specialty services support to electronics retailers and small custom a/v dealers by expanding into a full-service custom integrator providing a complete array of products, services, and support to private residences in northeast Florida. In an effort to better represent our offerings and vision for the company going forward, the company was renamed Private Theaters.
Today, Private Theaters is driven by the same unwavering passion and commitment to excellence that led to its beginnings and, though we continue to grow, our mission has remained the same. To ensure that each client enjoys the most authentic entertainment experience in their home, everday, and every time.

Troy D. Janda

Troy D. Janda has nearly 20 years of experience in the professional and consumer electronics industry. As a graduate of one of the most prestigious technical institutions of the professional film, television, and recording industry, Full Sail University, he began his career as an assistant recording engineer at the Music Annex Recording Studios in Menlo Park, California working with multi-platinum recording artists and industry-recognized, grammy-award winning recording engineers.
After several years in the professional music industry, Mr. Janda transitioned to a career within the custom home theater and consumer electronics industry acquiring a sales position at a national-recognized regional specialty electronics retailer where he honed his skills in sales and custom electronics integration under the directive of a former president of the Custom Electronics Design & Installation Association, the leading professional standards organization for the custom a/v industry.
In 1997, Mr. Janda attended a training and certification seminar on the science of video technology and standards by industry-recognized expert, Joseph P. Kane. Fueled by his passion for entertainment perfection, Mr. Janda became an early-adopter, advocate and pioneer in the performance solutions sector of the home theater market and established the company that is now known as Private Theaters. After years as a service only solutions company, Mr. Janda transitioned the company into a full service custom home theater company providing turn-key solutions to some of the most accomplished business executives and entreprenuers of Fortune 500 companies.
With an unwavering passion for entertainment perfection, Mr. Janda continues to be the driving force and vision behind Private Theaters. Though the company has expanded its core business model over the years, the original mission established by Mr. Janda has never changed. Our passion is to ensure each client enjoys the most authentic entertainment experience in their home, everyday, and every time.
